I’ve been busy in the craft room lately and can’t wait to share another card I created last night. Take a look at this adorable slimline card. What is a slimline card? A slimline card is a tall card that fits into a business size envelope (size: 3.5″ x 8.5″).
I created this card using the Lighting the Way stamp set and dies from Stampin’ Up! I absolutely LOVE how this turned out.
Here are the dimensions:
- Base (starry sky): 8 1/2″ x 7 ” and scored on the 7″ side in the middle ( 3 1/2″)
- Layer 2 (basic white): 8 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ (cut 2 of these-1 for outside and 1 for inside)
- Layer 3 (basic white) 8″ x 3″
- Gold foil sheet for lantern
- scrap: basic black, daffodil delight, vellum cardstock, and starry sky.
To create this card, I started with the basic white layer 3. I first stamped the 2 lightening bugs and their starry trails on the basic white card stock. I then cut out the lightening bug from the dies set using the scraps of basic black, daffodil delight, and vellum cardstock. I adhered these together using green glue, then placed it where I wanted it to go. Next, I stamped the starry trail under my lightening bug. I did NOT adhere the lightening bug to the cardstock yet. Set the bug aside.
Next, I took my blending brush and dipped it in the starry sky ink pad. Then, in a circular motion, I added color to basic white. I left some areas white to give a twilight effect.
Now it’s time to cut the lantern out of the gold foil cardstock (I just love how it gleams). I placed it in the spot I wanted it to go (don’t adhere it). I inked up my blending brush in daffodil delight then lifted up the lantern and did a circular motion on the paper to create the glow from the lantern. Next I added the glow to the lightening bugs with that same blending brush.
Now it’s time to add a little texture. Using my water painter, I gently splattered water onto the card then blotted it off leaving behind the little splatters. Next I did the same thing with wink of stella to add a little shine to the card.
I decided to use the “Follow Your Dreams” sentiment. I used Versamark to stamp onto the 1 1/2″ circle from the stylish shapes dies. I then added white embossing powder and heated it up with the heat tool. I love how sharp this turns out with the contrast of the words in white on the starry sky paper!
Now to assemble as shown. To finish off the product, add mini “Stampin’ Dimensionals” to the back of the die cut lightening bug, a few to the back of the lantern, and one to the back of the Follow Your Dreams circle. Place as shown on the photo. Add wink of stella to your die cut lightening bug to really show it off!
To add a bit more pizazz, I added a few basic rhinestones to make it really pop. Here’s an up close picture of the completed card.
Now to jazz up the inside of the card. I simply stamped the sentiment, added a few of the starry trails, added a few lightening bugs and made them glow using the blending brushes dipped in daffodil delight and adding it to the stamped image by using a blending brush in a circular motion.
Now it’s your turn! Create a slimline card and show us your work.
